JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Quote of the month!
“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We only have today. Let us begin.”
– Mother Theresa

A NEW YEAR AND NEW BEGINNINGS

This quote felt important to put into our first newsletter of the year.

While we can’t help but remember the events of 2020, we also need to remember that each day is a new day. Each small change brings us closer to having a brighter future.

So with that, let’s begin this year on a positive note!

We are so proud to say that in 2020, we were able to deliver Life Boxes to 174 families in need!

When the pandemic first hit, we weren’t sure what was going to happen. We quickly put together the Lifebox Appeal, not knowing if we’d even be able to get the items delivered.

Fortunately, thanks to all of your ongoing support as well as the dedication of our team in Peru, the Life Boxes were a huge success.

Knowing that without us, the families would not have been able to get basics such as food and water was a big concern. We wish that there was more support available to families living in poverty in Peru but until then, we shall continue to be a voice for them and fight on their behalf.

At the beginning of 2021, we are now supporting a total of 24 children and their families with educational costs, therapy and housing and 55 individuals with monthly lifeboxes.

That’s a total of 79 individuals (not including family members we support through the therapy visits).

So please, keep on supporting, there’s a lot of vulnerable people out in Peru relying on us!

José Luis is a young man with learning difficulties and autism. He lives with his single Mother who has spinal problems.

His economic situation is extremely difficult, even more so now due to COVID-19, as his Mum has lost her income and they continue to receive no help from the government. He is relying on help from his family and friends as and when they can, just to survive.

José Luis’s brother helps with basic expenses, however, he has now lost his job due to the pandemic and he and his wife are having trouble supporting their own home as well as supporting José Luis and his Mother.

Luckily, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to help this family.

They have been receiving a regular Lifebox and will continue to receive them for as long as needed. They’re so grateful because without these items, they’d have no help and no hope.

For just £3 a month can ensure that José and his family will get rice and sugar for a WHOLE MONTH!

A little really goes such a long way!

YES, I’d like to support Jose Luis and his Mum with £3 a month!

AMAZON SMILE

We are thrilled to announce that we are now supported by AmazonSmile.

AmazonSmile is a scheme operated by Amazon, offering the same products, features and prices as the regular Amazon site, the only difference being that every time you purchase an AmazonSmile eligible product, 0.5% of the sale price will be donated directly to Kiya Survivors, at no extra cost to you!

In other words, your everyday purchases would help support the Kiya campaigns helping vulnerable children and their families.

If you already have an Amazon account, you can begin shopping instantly.

To get started head over to smile.amazon.co.uk and follow these simple instructions:

    1. Log in using your regular Amazon login details & click “Get started”
    2. Search for Kiya Survivors in the “Pick your own charity” search bar
    3. Select Kiya Survivors
    4. You’ll receive an email from Amazon and you’re good to go!
    5. Fill your basket as your normally would, knowing each eligible purchase (defined with an AmazonSmile sticker) contributes to making a difference in the lives of the Kiya children and their families

You can set up your account now by clicking here.

THERAPY MAMA COCHA

Our virtual therapy continues this year and we are please to say that thanks to a generous donation from one of our supporters, we’ve been able to hire a
Psychologist to join the team from February!

Many of our families are suffering due to lock downs, lack of income, abuse as a result of lock downs and depression. A Psychologists input was much needed.

Our team will continue with the virtual sessions as well as the in-person sessions with the goal of reaching the 20 families we currently support.
To continue supporting the therapy, you can donate below or become a sponsor for as little £3 per month.

WELCOME LUCIA!

We’d like to introduce you to our newest volunteer, Lucia!

Lucia is a Psychology graduate who holds a passion for positively impacting the lives of others.
She first heard about Kiya Survivors when volunteering looking after Suzy’s rescue animals in Spain. Upon discovering the importance of the charity’s mission and the benefits their work has had on the children, families and community they work with, she decided to join the Kiya family!

Lucia has taken on the role of “Active Kiya Manager”, helping research, organise and manage 2021’s Active fundraising events for Kiya in Spain, along with the challenge of “The 50 Club Coordinator”, helping develop and coordinate a new initiative in order to secure the sustainable running costs of Kiya.

If you have any spare time and would like to support Kiya as a hands on or virtual volunteer, please get in touch here.

Thank you all again for your ongoing support. We are hoping for a brighter 2021!
